WHM System Reboot
Difficulty Level: Easy
WHM System Reboot Section
Graceful Server Reboot
Recommended Method
Login to WHM using the root user credentials
Navigate to Home > System Reboot > Graceful Server Reboot. You can either locate the section shown below or use the search bar to the left of your screen (it may be minimized) and search for Graceful Server Reboot
When you are ready to reboot, click the Proceed button
Note, your server will be offline for a couple of minutes while this happens. If you can, time this during lower traffic periods for your site(s).
The display in WHM will not notify you when the reboot is finished. After waiting 2 - 3 minutes, try clicking another link in WHM. If it loads, it’s a good indication that the reboot has completed. You can also check by trying to load your own website. If it loads, the reboot is finished. If it doesn’t load, the reboot is still taking place.
Using SSH
A server can be rebooted through SSH
Connect to your server using Terminal (Mac) or Putty (Windows) as the root user
Enter the command reboot
You will be disconnected and can then log back in again once the reboot is complete.
Navigate to Home > System Reboot > Forceful Server Reboot. You can either locate the section shown below or use the search bar to the left of your screen (it may be minimized) and search for Forceful Server Reboot
When you are ready to to perform a Forceful Reboot, click the Proceed button
Warning
Warning: This will forcefully reboot your system!
This can result in data loss; however, if your system will not do a graceful reboot, this is generally preferable to a hard reset.
